The Cupertino Union School District, with state and national recognition for the excellence of its schools, serves over 16,000 students—representing 46 different languages—in a 26-square mile area that includes the city of Cupertino and portions of five other cities in California’s Silicon Valley. The district is comprised of nineteen elementary schools, one K-8 school and five middle schools.
The mission of the Cupertino Union School District is to provide a child-centered environment that cultivates character, fosters academic excellence, and embraces diversity. District families, community, and staff join as partners to develop creative, exemplary learners with the skills and enthusiasm to contribute to a constantly changing global society.
Cupertino is committed to developing an inclusive, caring educational community in which each individual has an equal opportunity to achieve his or her potential. The district serves a richly diverse student population—73% Asian (includes Indian subcontinent), 15% White, 5% Hispanic, 1% African American, 1% Filipino, and 5% other.
Historically, district test scores have been high, placing the Cupertino Union School District among the premier public school districts in the state. The district is a leader in the development of a standards-based system of education and is nationally recognized for leadership in the use of technology as an effective tool for learning.
The district is proud of its tradition of providing students with the social and academic skills needed to prepare them for life as responsible, productive citizens of the twenty-first century. Believing that the most significant variable in the delivery of services to our students is the quality of our human resources, a major goal of the strategic plan is to attract, retain, and develop a competent, caring, and effective staff.
The Cupertino Union School District is truly a special place where a dedicated and caring staff, high parental involvement, and community partnerships are all keys to the success of the district.
